Alice's Run, Mytholmroyd, 5th Sept 2010

Lyndsey was flying the flag for ERR at Alice's run this weekend.  She had cunningly positioned 8 ERR marshalls along the route to keep her going on throughout the full 10k. Interesting route in this picturesque valley with good weather to boot.  Thanks to our volunteer marshalls and a special guest appearance by Dave Steele, who was adored by those who met him.............

Fleetwood Half Marathon Sunday 29th  August 2010

Eccleshill had one runner travelling over to Fleetwood over the Bank Holiday weekend, Gary Scott gives his account of the race:

This would be my first half marathon and would be good training for the Great North Run in 3 weeks.  My reasons for choosing this half marathon would be it's nice and flat and after enjoying many holidays here in my childhood I had a chance, for the first time I knew where I was going.  Got to race HQ (Marine Hall) 08:30, typical seaside weather, windy and raining, by 09:30 (start of race) rain had stopped, the sun came out, things were looking up. The race was twice round in a loop with a slight difference.

My intention was nice steady training run miles in the bank for Great North Run, but knowing it to be a nice flat course I was off like (Eccleshill) Road Runner getting away from Coyote!  Going well, nice block paving to run on, a bit breezy but otherwise good going.  reaching mile 3 to 4, left turn onto coastal road towards town centre back to Marine Hall to do it again, bring it on until the difference came in.  We did not run back along the block paving but on the other side of Marine Hall on the seafront which in theory is ok until the wind whips up the sand in your face and everywhere else. From mile 7 to 10 it was like being on exercise in the Foreign Legion.  Then happy days, turned the corner at mile 10 back to Marine Hall, wind behind me, it was like getting out of a horse and cart and getting into a Ferrari, a quick finish in a good time 1 hour 24 minutes.

VETS RACE 7 @ WEST VALE-18th August 2010

With Holidays and injurys getting in the way we still managed to get 12 runners out in this latest  race of the YVAA series,on a tough course that was reflected in the times we still had some outstanding performance's. The route was a steady uphill for 2 miles then along some lovely open landscape to return back into the valley and do a few cheeky uphills that were hard enough to walk up.
Leading the ERR pack home was Paul 50.10, Brian 56.58, Helen 60.32, Janice 63.00, Derek 71.21, David 71.51, John 75.44, Alison 79.40, Hazel & Sue 83.30, Arthur 84.21 & Kath 84.26. One runner, who will remain unnamed, got a bit lost on the way there, missed the start & went home for a chinese instead - good choice!
Well done all.

Eccleshill had 6 runners, 2 sweepers and an army of Marshals out in this, the inaugural Wrose Challenge 5k.  A testing course starting off at Hepworth and Idle Cricket Club saw runners faced with steep grassy inclines, mud, rocks, a 3' wall and not least a large part of the 1 in 6 gradient hill, Carr Lane. Despite all that Junior runner Marc Steele was first in for Eccleshill in a time of 25:31 closely followed by Mark Scott 26:23, Lyndon Ross 27:10, Brian Perfitt 29:48, Debbie Trolley 34:09 and Dawn Hogan 38:01.

eSHOLT BASH- 16TH June 2010

Only 2 brave and heroic runners represented Eccleshill on this hot and
humid event; unfortunately the Vets race at Pudsey clashed with this
partner club race resulting in a smaller than hoped number of runners.
This is the 2nd time that this race has been hosted and despite moving
the date of this race in an attempt to prevent race clashes, again it
coincided with the Vets race at Pudsey.

However, this is a lovely 'challenging' (note: euphemism for hilly) race
that featured a new course this year. It comprises of a two-lap circuit
starting in Esholt woods, running along the sewerage beds for a good
mile before turning back right into the woods for a testing incline
before heading over a river, then a stile and starting the lap again.
The route is predominately trail but feels reasonably safe and firm
underfoot (this could be different if weather conditions were not as
favourable). The course is certainly not as tough as last years with the
hill incline reduced by half and the long steep decline over loose
shingle now not included within the race, after complaints from fellow
(fairy) runners that they felt unsafe and at risk of falling.

Claire finished 2nd lady (42m 41) and won some wine & cider (hiccup)
whilst Lyndon completed the course in a very respectable 48m 40.

Otley 10M - 9th June 2010

No fewer than 12 of us turned out for this midweek 10 mile race around Otley.
On what was a wet and windy evening we still had some great times with Julie, Sophie & Lyndon all getting PB,s on this( fast flat course) undulating course which proved challenging at times with the strong wind.
First home was Mick Hogan 69-23 followed by Gary Scott 69-27,Claire Elener 70-58,Rob Sutton 78-12,Lyndon Ross 82-24,Brian Perfitt 91-29,Julie Steele 97-15, Sophie Withnall 97-59, Dawn Hogan 102-12, John Birbeck 105-33, Alison Hartley 105-53 & Linda Bussey 119-54.
A big thank you Martin,Tom & Marc for there fantastic support again.
